Líonra, the Regional Higher Education Network, held a Forum in Athlone on 16/17 October entitled ‘Higher Education in the Service of the Region’.

Speakers included Dr Jimmy Devins, Minister of State for Science Technology and Innovation, Meirion Thomas, Partner CM International and Martin Hynes of IRCSET.

During the Forum delegates joined syndicate groups organised on the lines of Líonra’s operational priorities: Lifelong Learning, Entrepreneurship and Research. Each of the groups examined their areas of activity and reached agreement on future actions and priorities.

The Forum was chaired by Prof Ciarán Ó Cátháin, President of Athlone Institute of Technology.
