Up to 35 new and emerging businesses and companies across the Border Midlands and West (BMW) region will soon enjoy the support of the combined resources of seven of the country’s third level colleges as part of a unique new enterprise initiative promoted by Líonra the Regional Higher Education Network.
Launched at the Midlands Innovation and Research Centre, the ‘Business Mentoring for Winners’ programme will see up to 35 newly formed and existing knowledge-based technology companies in the region having the opportunity to avail of specialist support in areas such as licensing, franchising, intellectual property, venture capital and related specialties.
Líonra - representing the colleges in Athlone, Dundalk, Galway, Letterkenny and Sligo - sees the 16 month mentoring programme as building the technological capacity of early-stage companies and increasing their commercial potential and also as a response to the earlier identified skills gap in the BMW Regional Assembly’s Audit of Innovation (2004).
The programme is funded under the BMW Regional Assembly’s ‘Innovative Actions Programme 2006 – 2008’. |
